RECORDING NOTES
This album was recorded over a period of around two years or so. It is an attempt to document some of the early songs that I wrote and performed, both as a solo performer and as part of the classic rock band A Glasgow Kiss, and it represents that time of my life.
Neil and I talked about recording some of these songs, and we did an initial demo with drums in Neil’s garage for four songs. None of those recordings made it onto this album; however, the concept was sound (if you’ll excuse the pun).
Initially, the plan was to record the album and play a few gigs live to promote it. However, the reality of running a band that was largely based in Newcastle, combined with the difficulty of getting venues to host a full set of original material, meant that we only ever managed to do a single gig.
That said, the recordings and performances you’re hearing now represent, in my mind, some of the best musicianship and energy from that time.
The recording is largely based on real instruments played by musicians, with minimal amounts of MIDI programming. I’m extremely proud of, and grateful to, all the musicians who contributed to this project and for lending me their time and talent. We have done our best in the mixing and mastering to do you justice.
